My MF35 is still misfiring despite checking valve adjustments, timing, ignition system(plugs, points, condenser, coil, etc.)per the suggestions you kind folks offered when I first wrote of this problem.I've checked for water in the gas and am now in the middle of a carb cleaning. The tractor used no oil when it was running OK and compression checks good. The distributor also looks good.I'm now wondering about the timing gear. There doesn't seem to be much left.Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
RB in Carolina

Try pulling a spark plug wire off while eng. is running. This will tell you which cylinder you need to give attention to. Pull them off at the distributer. May use insulated pliers. While carb is off you can check intake gasket.Does it skip when idling or reved up under no load. But steady out when loaded.Hard to hear tractor over the web but we all try to help. Good luck.

Did you replace the rotor button? also the coil could be not giving a good spark with the cap off just remove wire to points and ground it while holding the coil wire a 1/4 inch or so from a ground on the tractor if you get a good blue spark ok and just do it quickly. Also you could have a bad plug. I had one that fired when grounded but when installed was bad replaced it and was . Try removing a wire at a time and see if they are corroded inside or not. Hope that helps some. Did you have carb off if so check gasket on intake make sure not leaking air around base of carb.

To add to Rods comments... If you spray starting fluid around your intake manifold and the engine picks up RPM's you have an intake leak. Be carefull because Starting Fluid is highly Explosive....

Did you change the condenser? Condensers go bad oftener than points do and bad ones are the major cause for points to burn... a new condenser can be bad... especially when they get hot... Stay right with it... There has to be a reason....

starting fluid is real dangerous. take a propane torch (unlite) and open the valve and place torch tip near where you might expect a leak. same effect as starting fluid without puddles of liquid accumulating.
