I have a MF35 with a serial number SGM252002. The serial range on this site does not go this high. Can anyone help as to the the year of manufacture?

Donnie...went back and checked and mine (see my post below) is made in USA. Gauges include (left to right) oil, fuel, tractormeter, water and battery. Also, I failed to mention, but it also has power steering.

Donnie ,My 35's serial # is SGM 252671 and I have always assumed it was a 1964.So it looks like yours would have been bulit a few hundred machines before mine . . My Serial number plate says it was bulit in Detroit . . Does the plate on yours tell where it was made ?

If Coventry built it is 1961, 220614-267527.
S = Normal Width
G = Petrol (Gasoline) 6:1 compression
M = Dual clutch

Simon, what is your source? My FE-35 was built in Coventry and using tractortips.com's site, I assumed that my SNFY360173 was a 1964. Now I am not so sure. Thanks in advance for any help. C. T.

C.T. your Coventry built MF 35 is definately 1964 as the 1st built in '64 was 352255 and the last one ever built was 388382. This is from Allan T. Condie's book "Massey Ferguson 1958-82" Classic Tractor Special.

Thanks for the info. How do you tell if it is Coventry built.

Says on serial no. plate. If built in Coventry it might not be the same place as U.S.-built machines, & you will think the plate is missing till you look around.

Donnie,Where was your tractor built? Coventry built 35's started 1961 with serial no.220614 and started 1962 with no.267528 therefore yours could be late '61.

Donnie...mine's 250583 - a little lower/older than yours but also above the highest number listed on the serial number page. As Chip said, those are starting numbers, so like you, I assume mine is a 1964. I'm told that was the last year for the 35s before they went to the 135 series. Mine is listed in the tractor registry in the left sidebar, under Massey Ferguson, then under "35."

If you browse around the registry, you'll find a lot of apparently contradictions that I wouldn't begin to try to explain. Some have year of manufacture earlier than yours or mine, but higher numbers. Some have prefixes that seem inconsistent with what's on the serial number page. I think I'ved read that some of those prefixes have to do with what options the tractor had.

For what it's worth, mine is a MF 35 Deluxe, 1964, Perkins 3-cyl diesel, gauges (tractormeter, fuel, temp, battery - don't recall if oil pressure), floating seat, differential lock, two-stage clutch, dash light. Some of these are characteristic of the Deluxe model, but probably were optional on non-Deluxe.

I think we've hit upon the serial no. problem. A lot of grey market machines from England have completely different serial nos. than those mfg. in the U. S., and in recent years many have been shipped into U.S.

The serial number area shows the starting number for that year. With this in mind, I would say you have a 1964 model.
