Repost please forgive! I forgot to include model of M-H. Am interested from anyone who has replaced rear-main seals in M-H 44. If complete engine removal is necessary and tractor is split. Thanks again. Rich

I replaced the rear seal on my 44 Special without removing the engine. The pan needs to come off as does the bell housing. The engine needs to be supported and you may need to move the engine ahead a bit to get the clutch shaft apart. I couldn't find a seal when I did mine - Massey said they weren't available. So I picked a seal from Garlock and built a new seal holding bracket. Has never leaked a drop since repair.

If I am correct some 44's had a 2 piece seal while other had a one piece. I replaced the two piece seal type (neophrene) several years ago without removing the crank. I was able to start one piece and turn the crank and roll it into position and the other fit on the bottom side. I had the motor laying on a table and it was easy to work on this way. It would be more difficult laying under with engine in its frame but I think it could be done. Good luck.
