My 44 steering is really tight. I've run other tractors like the Farmall C that you can turn with a spinner. Should the 44 be the same? What do you guys think the problem might be?

Soory, left out something important. It's an RC and it has plenty of grease. Gear box leaks a little but not enough to worry with unless I have to bebuild it. It steers like a bear though.

Could be the pre load on the worrrm gear. Jack the front of the tractor up. watch to see how much the tractor goes up before the wheels leave the groung. with the front wheels off the ground, try turning it (both from the steering wheel and pushing on the tires) if it turns easy with the wheels off the ground, it's most likely the bottom bearing. if not, look into the steering box. good luck

you did not say if it's a wide or narrow front i'll take a shot it's narrow most of the time it's the bearing in the front spindel the one between the front wheels they get dry and just wore out but also check the gear box up front under the radiator. there is a grease zerk for the spindel bearing down low on the spindel

Here are a few things to check.Make sure your king-pins are not to tight.Chek for a binding u-joint.Bearigs could be set to tight in the steering box.Make sure everything is well greased and steering box has oil in it.
