High all,

there is an opportunity for me to bye an fergusen FE 35. It was built with two different diesel engines, a 4 Zyl. Standard 23 c and later with a 3 Zyl. perkins diesel.

Has anybody experience in which one of those is a "better" engine in liability and spareparts supply? Was the standard 23c engine manufactured by Ferguson, or where did it come from?

Thanks for your help allready,

yours Karsten Vermeer

Folks: Perkins is very much still in business! They still sell the AD3-152 diesel engine. So you can by a new one, and I think I've seen them on welders and air compressors.

Forgot to answer part of question you ask. 23c was made by Standard Motor Company and was only used for a short time. Later 35s has A3.152 or AD3.152 Perkins engine. I think Perkins are still in business.

Try ->Link

The>Link 23C engine was used in early models, the perkins in later ones. MF bought the Perkins company so I guess it made sense.

The Perkins engine is easier to start than the 23C, and the torque curve is better matched to the tractor.

No doubt about it. The 3 cylinder is the better engine and appears in a lot of machinery besides the 35. Starts easily lasts well and parts are easy to get.

Hi
Do a search on the FE 35 and I believe you will find lots of complaints about the Standard 4 cly being hard to start.
Check out Big Dean's site>Link
and>Link e-mail him for advice. He is a tremendous resource.

The comments that the 23C are hard to start when worn are untrue,they were hard to start when NEW!!
