My MF135, diesel, will not crank, its cold here and it did turn over slowly a few times when I tried to start it this afternoon, then nothing. When I turn the key, not even any clicking. I put in a new battery, same result, nothing. When it was cranking I only held the key for 10-15 seconds each time. Did I burn something up? Where should I start? I've got a multimeter but very little experience with diesels. I just bought this tractor last month to replace my 9N and it ran fine last Monday. Thanks for any suggestions.

My MF-35 diesel will not crank unless the Low/Neut/High lever is exactly in the center. Most of the time I leave it there. One day I was showing it to a friend and was embarassed when it wouldn't start. After connecting a battery charger, changing the battery, checking battery connections & etc. It still wouldn't start. My friend left without hearing it run. The next day I moved the lever just a little and it started right up..That lever must be exactly in neutral...If not it won't click or anything. Checking for voltage at the neutral safety switch is a good idea. Good Luck

Hey Will. Take your multimeter, put it on DC volts 20volt range. Measure from ground to the small wire on the starter, turn the key and you should see 12 volts +or- a little. If you see it there then your problem is the starter solenoid. If it's not there, there is a neutral safty switch right front side top of the trany. Check for 12 volts there when the key is turned. If you don't see it there, check your battery cables.

If it cranked slow before it just might be a bad cable.

Hope you find it. Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I'll wait till it warms up a bit and then go check it.
