Super 90...value what to look for?

One of these showed up on a for sale lot near where I work, 1960 model, gas, WF, 2 remote levers(though only one is plumbed), faded paint but sheetmetal is straight, might be some trim missing, 18.4x30 rears, near new. Also comes with a small (6-7') 3pt back blade.

I haven't heard it run, much less drove it, but what sort of things should I look for on this thing? Main uses would be winter work instead of keeping the 180 diesel plugged in all winter, and maybe a restoration down the road.

Also, any idea as to a fair price?

Thanks,

Steve NW WI

If the tractor is in good operational condition, I would go up to $2000. Some parts are very hard to find for the MF85, 88, & 90 series tractors. They are very durable machines, but if you have any major problems with them, you may as well part it out. Engine components and hydraulic pumps are very, very hard to find.

Yep, Elkhart Lake ( Sheboygan County ). I have an 85 which I had to do a quite of bit of work to get operational & some parts are a real pain trying to find; had to weld up the ring gear ( no longer available ), rebuild both hydraulic pumps with used parts from other pumps, replaced a lot of seals & most were not available from MF, replaced exhaust manifold gaskets that were very hard to find. I guess if you don't mind spending the extra time trying to find or rebuild parts it's ok, otherwise I'd stick with a 65 if you can handle the power loss or move up to a newer series. Good luck!

I have a 1964 Gas Super 90 and it is a great tractor. I use it to haul fire wood, and snow plow in the winter. It starts on the first crank everytime! I rebuilt the motor 1.5 years ago, spending only $250 and rebuild the head, put new rings, and bearings in it. I also needed a piston which was very hard to find until I found this website. Fred Wolfe helped me out, as he had a piston. The only problem I have ever had with mine in the 5 years I've owned it (other than the engine rebuild (which I knew I would have to do when I bought it) is that the only night it spent outside it rained some, then it dropped below freezing, and water got into the hydraulics, and nothing worked on the tractor, no power steering, no 3 pt, no clutch, the tractor wouldn't move until I got it warmed back up. Then I changed the fluid, and it has been fine ever since.
