I am thinking about buying an 1100 MF. Its diesel and the motor has been rebuilt but it has a noise in forward gears, but not in reverse. Could it be a bearing in the trans? How hard are these trans to work on? and what would be the approximate value of this tractor considering that it may need some work? any info would be appreciated.

Did you buy this one? If not where do you live(state)? I need one for spares.

Sounds expencive if you don't have a parts tractor avalable. If you can, drop the hyd filter under the transmission. What you find (ie. metal filings, flakes, bearing pieces) will give you a good indication as to what is wrong.

Run away from this one,MF uses the same oil in the tranny, rear end and HYD. If it has started to grind a bearing up in the tranny it can destroy the hyd system. If you can get it very cheap you might take a chance.

Thank you for your response, it might save a lot of headaches. The man wants 1200 dollars for this tractor, what would be cheap? about 500 be worth the gamble?
