Have a 1979 285 MF that needs new decals on the cowling. Any suggestions on how to remove old decals without hurting the paint. Tried WD40 but its not working very well. Advice appreciated.

Make sure you can get ahold of some new decals before you rip the old ones off. I know they don't make them anymore for the 1150's.

A heat gun is how we remove them on semis. Works good, but just dont get it to hot to mess up the paint.

I believe auto parts stores have a decal remover in a spray can like paint. Don't know what it would do to paint though. You might give a local body shop a call, they have to deal with that problem occasionally.

Use a heat gun! Just don't strip the paint.

Having just done this on a Ford pick up (old JD dealer truck ) use the heat gun and not the spray can.

Hi we use a decal eraser made by 3M.It has a arbor to go into a drill.Your local body supply store should have them.It will remove the decal without hurting the paint. If you want I can run out to the shop and get the part number for this thing.I belive it runs about $15.00
