I have a MF 285 that has blown the front seal in the power steering pump. I replaced the power steering pump with a new one and within twenty hours the new pump had the seal pushed out of the housing. What could cause this? The tractor steers easy except the seal gets pushed out and sends the power steering fluid into the engine crankcase. Would this be the steering motor or the cylinder. (the steering motor is leaking slightly and the steering wheel will freewheel when the motor is not running instead of slowly turning the wheels)

Tim It sounds to me like you got a bad pump the pressure should not get to the seal to blow it out & should be able to withstand the relief valve pressure for short periods of time.

Tim,what kind of fluid are you using?I put ATF in my MF135 as my shop manual instructed and it began leaking. After talking with Big Dean I drained ATF and replaced with hydraulic fluid and I haven't had any problems since.I had to replace some seals in my box as a result of ATF.Just a idea.Good luck and let us know what you did to fix problem.
