MF 135 Power steering hose fluid questions

I helped my friend do a tuneup and fluid change on his newly acquired 135. After starting the engine and turning the steering wheel, the contents of the power steering reservoir quickly leaked through the fitting where the pressure line connects to the bottom of the pump. Tightening the fitting didn't help either.

I'm assuming the hose end and perhaps the mating fitting in the pump are damaged. Is there a good source of replacement power steering hoses or is this something that is best made up locally?

Also, after searching this board's archives, it seems that the same fluid used in the trans/hydraulics is also good for the powersteering instead of the Type A, ATF recommended in the manual. Is this still so?

Any wisdom is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all,
David

A MF tractor dealer should be able to make you up a set of hoses and fittings, but check around. Sometimes a local shop might have better prices. And yes trans/hydralaulic fluid is good for powersteering. Good Luck, Casey

David, I checked on the same hoses for my 135 and found that one of the M-F dealers here said that the hoses were about 80.00 each. Wow!! He suggested that a local auto parts store, in that town I was visiting, could make a couple up for me. The cost for 2 hoses and fittings was 38.00. And it was a better grade of hose as well. All I had to do was cut the steel lines from the original hoses and attach them to the new hoses. Worked out real well for me, but make sure you really tighten the fittings down good against the steel pipe ends.
