I have the lift top off and do not know how to go about rebuilding the lift piston first let me give you a little history the lift has always been nervous and jerky i replaced the hyd. pump last year with no help so i am suspecting lift piston the lift also leaks down real fast. How do i know if i need a new cylinder and piston or can i rebuild the old one i have been told the new pistons with the orings or teflon rings are alot better. Also ever since i worked on it last year the lift will not raise all the way up until you go all the way into Constant Pumping with the position lever and the draft lever all the way up.Please Help!!!

John,
I have MF-690 so it is probably different. My genuine MF Repair Manual has pages and pages of procedures and tests for this system. I just can't help you. Don't think you have a chance without the REAL Repair Manual and Parts Manaul both. You might try to repost and use "Big Dean" name in your subject. He may be able to steer you through this.

I have a I&T manual are their better ones out there?I adjusted all the stuff on the lift top last year according to the manual i am really concerned with the lift height doing the same thing, i would like to correct that before i put it back together this time.

Yeah it does not tell you alot like how do i get that piston out of the cylinder.Would i be better off to buy a new cylinder and piston (with new style rings)and not worry about honing and using old piston with metal rings.I guess the answer to that is to look at the wear and go from that. The IT book refers to scynize (cant spell) the quadrants through the right side with the tractor running.Could that have been my lift height problem?

Again, you need the real MF manuals from your MF dealer. They are not overpriced and much better than the copy-cat kind. Again, you need Three (3) manuals for your tractor: 1. Operators Manual, 2. Repair Manual, and 3. Parts Manual. I have found that not having the Parts Manual is a big mistake; mine kept my chestnuts out ot the fire numerous times. good luck

Highly recommend you purchase real MF Repair Manual and Parts Manual for your MF 175 from the dealer. You will need both. The Parts Manual will have the best detailed exploded views of small parts needed for reassembly. The Repair Manual will have all instructions, specifications, clearances, wear specs, etc. Your job from last year may have to be re-done to get the lift right (should have had manuals when you did that) Hope this helps you; get the manuals, study how to do the job, then post any questions. Good luck.
