I just looked in a manual and the Continental F226 engine had the 32 head bolts whereas the Chrysler had only 21. If it is the Super 101 (and I think it is), somebody had dropped the Continental engine into your tractor since it should probably have the Chrysler engine in it. Check carefully again for that full serial number on top of the tranny.

If it has a Jan 42 casting date undeneath it seems to me it would be a model made which would have to be after Jan 42. If that is reasonable thinking it probably started as a 101 Senior. The next thing to identify is the make of engine, the serial number and model stampings would solve a lot of guess work.

Saw your post further down the page here and if the front of the grille is cast iron with the Massey Harris name on it, then you've most likely got the 101 Super. Are the sidecovers on it full-coverage panels with a ton of louvre slots in them (and in the other smaller panels you mentioned)? If so then that would be the Chrysler engine as someone already mentioned.

If it has six cylinders it is not a 101 Jr. they only had four cylinders. It would the bigger version ,they started out in 1938 with the six cylinder 101 ,in 1939 they changed the name to 101 Super when the 101 Jr was introduced, same tractor maybe improved engine or maybe to distingusih it from the 101 Jr.. In 1942 the 101 Super was replaced by the 101 Senior, still with a flat head six cylinder but there is a difference of the manufacturer of the engine. between the 101 Super and the 101 Senior, The 101 and the 101 Super had a Chrysler engine, having a belt driven governor and the distributer sticking out the side of the engine. The 101 Senior has a Continental six and the distriburter sticks out on top of the head. Your housing says it was made in 1942, so it might be a 101 Senior but it should have a four forward gears regardles which tractor model it is. If you want a definate year and model you must find the serial number stamped on the top transmission case, just between the cover over the rear end gears and the cover over the transmission gears, this number is directally behind the bent up lever that engages the pto/belt pulley. Ther you will find stamped numbers and letters that will enable you to identify the year and model of tractor you have.
