I am just in the "final" steps of negotiation on a MF 35 FE model and want to thank Jack in NB and Big Dean for there help over the past months in providing opinions, warnings, suggestions and advice.

The tractor I am hoping to finalize a deal on has a serial number that begins with SNMYW

From the two experts above the only letter we are not sure about is the "W" - Does it mean Multi-Power.

Does anyone have a web reference for looking up the serial numbers of these tractors that were made in Coventry England?

Thanks for any help.

bob

Your tractor is then a (S)standard farm tractor with (N)Perkins 3-152 diesel engine (A3-152, if serial number later than 302413), (M)dual clutch, (Y)differential lock and (W)MultiPower
Probably from one of the last three years of production, 1962 to 1964 - serial number will tell. 267528-307230 1962 307231-352254 1963 352255-388382 1964

My FE35 is "SNFY" and I do not have Multi-power. Looks like a logical deduction that "W" means Multi-power.

As far as I can figure it out, W stands for Multi Power, but Im not 100% sure. I also thought M was for dual clutch, which as a De Luxe model the 35 of Ten Mile High should have had one in its serial no. I have also seen an H listed in a serial No. Can anyone tell what this relates to?

I tried to get this information from Friends of Ferguson Heritage, but only got 2 partial replies. Im sure you guys can can do better!!!

Hi Hamish
The laws of diminishing possibilities would point to Multi-power for the "W" but I am still searching for something more definitive. Friends of Ferguson told me S= Agricultural
N = Perkins P3
M= Dual clutch
Y = Yes diff lock
W = we do not know either

and they have ask me to pass along anything I find out about the "W".

Surely someone has the ultimate answer!!

Well, my FE35 serial number is SNFY360173 and I do have a "Dual clutch". Is it possible that somebody installed this option at a later date? Maybe I don't really now what "Dual" means. When I depress it half way, the tractor stops but the PTO still turns. When I depress it all the way everything stops. Thanks, C. T.

Bob: I do believe you've found the Impossible Question. Good thing 'ole what's his name' didn't have this question instead of the Gordian Knot.. who knows what the world would have looked like. Where is Sherlock Holmes when ya' need him?!

Yours..
S=Agricultural
N=Perkins
M=Dual Clutch
Y=Differential Lock
W= ???
Bob does yours have Multi-Power.. the little lever on the dash with Hi/Low? How about Power Steering?

Mine..
S=Agricultural
N=Perkins
W= ???
Now, mine is a 1962 'Deluxe' (anybody know what that means ?)
It has:
Dual Clutch
Multi-Power
Power Steering
It does NOT have Differential Lock. If 'Deluxe' means Power Steering & Dual Clutch, then the W must be Multi-Power.

I have a MF 150 sn SDM642013128.

It has a place on the dash for the Multi Power, but no lever.
I just bought the tractor so I have not checked if it has linkage.

Any idea on what tractor I have, year, Multi, etc??
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm purchasing a MF 50. A Few questions. What does multi power mean? What exactly does it do? Also, the pictures I'm finding don't show the breather coming out the hood. What does this mean. I was told that it was a 1962 MF 50 diesel. Any suggestions? As soon as I get the serial number, I'll check it out.
