I am looking at used MF 285 - cab- air . Tractor is in real nice shape , about 3000 hours . I already have 2 - 1085's , so driveline is familiar , I love those old Perkins 318's , also have a MF 274 (Landini) , a TEA 2085 , a 9N and a MH 30 . Back to 285 , problem with air conditioning - it leaks , anyone have any idea where main problems are with these systems , how difficult (read expensive) is it to repair ,it works fine if topped up , but eventually quits , any ideas?---Bill

Check around all the connections. Probly would be best to bring to a car service shop that does ac. they have the correct testing equipment and can pin-point the location. But i guess so many tractors are air conditioned now a days, the dealer should be able to pin-point the leak and fix/replace it. 285's are very common in my area as well, and ours is still chugging strong. Has about 5600 hrs on it and is starting to show it's age a little, but every spring we still strap on the duals and let 'er rip in the feild with a 20' spring tooth, 12-14' disk and feild cultivator. used to hook them together, but the disk couldn't handle it and is damn near ripped in half. wouldn't mind doing it again though. Plug her in when its below freezing, and she'll start just fine. Also have a winter cab/wind break on it and that helps alot. Hope she turns out as well as it looks.
