I am having trouble get a 44-6 running. The carb is fine and all the ports are open. It will run when you put a little gas in the air breather but it will not suck it out of the carb. All the jets are open and the needle valve is ok. The float is working ok too.

I feel it is not sucking the fuel out of the tube into the venturi. There is a round hole in the intake manifold just above where the carb bolts on on the engine side of the manifold. It is about 1/4 of an inch in dia and seems factory and goes all the way through.

Should this hole be there and if not would it be causing a loss of suction in the manifold?

I am ready to run it over the cliff, Help!!

Hi Tony,

This hole is a vacuum port used to put a vacuum
gauge for testing purposes. Some tractors with
cab many years ago (pre-1960) used vacuum operated winshield wipers (as the cars of this era)And some farmers used that port to operate milking machines
(my father did) during electric power failures. Conclusion this hole "MUST" be plugged...you should find treads inside the manifold wall to screw a plug in..which unfortunately I don't remember the size.

Hope it helps....

that hole should be plugged..should be a pipe thread.. used to put on a vacuum gage if the operator needed one

Try to make a plug out of tin foil making sure it doesn't get sucked in and try starting it.

I don't know if it's supposed to be open or not, but until I got my PARTS AND OTHER MANUALS, it's what I'd try. It will certainly increase the vacuum to your carb. Could be there's sposed to be a welch plug there, I don't know.
