Working on a MH 333 that happens to have a 44 (260H) engine in it. The block is cracked and will have to be replaced but the big question is that my tractor is LP and I want to confirm that the engine is LP. If it is not, I will look for a complete engine instead of just a common 44 block. I have a 44 parts manual but the part numbers don't seem to relate to the numbers on my parts. The pistons have #1774 on the inside and 1035 on the top and are flat topped. The only part number on the head is the build date and H260A-605. According to the parts book LP has a different head and pistons then Gas. Should the part numbers on the parts be the same as in the book???? thanks John in OK

Just to clarify what tractors had what engines:

MH 33 - 201CI
MH 333 - 208CI

MH 44 - 260CI
MH 444 - 277CI

Regarding LP blocks/heads vs. Gas blocks/heads:

The blocks and heads are the same for LP or gas, BUT the LP pistons should be domed. This is what gives you the higher compression. You can run an LP engine with flat-top pistons, but you will have less power.

My father is very knowledgable about these tractors. He also has new and used parts for them. If you have any questions, he is always willing to share his knowledge. His phone number is 920-876-3548. Just ask for Pete.

I've been told that the 333 (208 cubic inches) uses the same block as the 44's, I'm not sure what the engine number is. As for propane engines, I believe the blocks are the same as for gas with only the heads being different. Don't bet the farm on my information. Meanwhile, try posting your question on the Tractor Talk forum, I've found things a bit slow on the Massey board lately.

what i have seen the nos. on the parts are only casting no. and NOT the part no.and all the 333 i have had and seen had 260 in them. but this is a point of question some times as some say they had a smaller motor. but as for the no.it's only a casting no.
