This is high clearance MF85 with excellent sheet metal, starts good&runs good but throws oil like a GMC- I plan to go through the engine this summer- does anyone have info on parts availability? Upon using three point there is one tremendous noise in the area of the punkin-sounds like a rod striking the casting on a regular rotation frequency-doesn't seem to be affected by the PTO status -any ideas. Thanks for any help

Glenn:

I don't have any current information on the 88s, but I do have a Super 90 with the Perkins diesel in it. I was told much the same as you were about parts availability. My M-F dealer here is MISERABLE. I did some searching around, and I found two old guys around here that are absolutely brilliant with the older M-Fs.

For parts, call Williams Tractor Supply, they are in Madisonville, TN. Walter Williams is the guy who runs the place. If there are any parts out there, he will find them, and he is reasonable on his prices too. He will ship.

Just down the road in Madisonville, is a guy by the name of Ray Rogers. He knows M-Fs and can probably answer questions about your lift. Again, if you need pump parts, William's is your guy.

Hope this helps.

Greg

there's no good news with a MF85 desiel hd 277
the engine is rare and parts are impossible to
get.I was able to replace the rings rod bearings
and Head gasket.I couldn't find main bearings,or
a rear main seal.I was told that I could possiblie
get a sleave kit at the price of 1000$ (kit has
pistons, pins, sleaves and rings). The heads like to
crack I had mine repaired at the cost of 600$.
I had to replace a craked sleave with a used one
at 75$,sleaves are the wet type.As with the hydralic pump this pump is unique to this tractor
and parts are different then other pumps. The noise
might be broken pump mounts which can be welded
I've put way to much money in my MF85 good luck
with yours

Glen -

We've had a similar noise on the smaller models, when the lift raises too high, jams, and forces the system relief valve to blow - probably pump hammer.

If it disappears when the linkage is lowered a bit, and/or when the PTO is stopped by depressing the clutch pedal completely (assuming a 2-stage clutch), that's the probable source. Corrected on ours by readjusting the linkage and lift arm travel to mfr's specs.

Can't help on Continental diesel parts, but this link might ->Link

Hope>Link this helps.
