Have a MH 44 that i purcased for $200. didnt run but the body looks great. got it to run with new plugs, plug wire's a new coil and a wire that runs the the distribitor from the coil that little wire was the key. now that it runs i have problems with it. it needs the choke to start in the middle of summer. when runing it will only run in a sertian spot and needs to be ajusted all the darn time. when i bought it there was gas in the tank from years ago, prevented the tank from rusting but it i need to clean the carb most liklyand i think that is the problem but i was wondering if there may be a problem that would do that, that is common in the 44's

Check the throttle blade shaft for slop.If it's not too bad then get yourself a gallon of carb. cleaner and soak the carb ( take out both adjustment needles first and remove the bowl )soak it for a day following the instructions on the can. Blow it out with air good. Inspect it to see how the needles and seats look. If they aren't too bad put her back together. Be sure all the parts to the carb are actually there. My 44 ran terrible ony to find out that the economizer jet was not even there. Some of the parts are not avalible anymore but can be made by a repair shop that specializes in antique equip. carbs. Good luck with the carb. Mine runs best with the idle screw open 3/4 rounds and the other open 2-1/4 rounds. Also your 44 has brake shoes not bands.

It's amazing what 1 little port will do to a carb if it's plugged. Had same with a 22 recently and put in a rebuild kit, but what helped the most was finding & cleaning every little port. once they carbon or goo up, the carb can't do it's job. Good luck - ALAN
