High/Low shift won't go into low on MF 65

I had my old MF 65 with gas engine apart. Rebuilt engine, replaced everything which looked worn. Now that I have it all back together, it won't shift into low range. I assume I didn't get the shift lever ball in the right spot when putting it back together. QUESTION: Is there a simple way to make it right, or do I have to take the whole steering assembly off again?

Doug does it shift from high to neutral & neutral to high if so you did not miss the shift fork with the lever if you did miss the fork you can raise the top about 3/8 to 1/2 inch & move the shift lever in to the proper position with just unbolting the top and lifting on the steering wheel hub have done it lots of times. Email me if I can be of further help

I can shift from neutral to high and back, but not into low. I have not got the tractor moving yet. The engine runs and tractor is back together, but I have not yet rolled it out of the shop. Do you think I should try running it a little? Do you think that will help? Or should I try to get it to shift properly before rolling it out of the shop?

OK Doug a few more question [1] will the shift lever move into the low position & the tractor not move or is it you can not move the lever into low [2] Can you feel the detent click in when you move the lever and how many can you feel. [3] Have you with the engine running try to let the clutch out with the lever in the neutral position for just an instant & then tried to shift it into low. [4] Does the tractor move when the lever is in the neutral position. [5] Have you had the shift rails & forks out of the transmission. I think I can probably figure out your problem if you can answer these question for me Big Dean
