I just received my operator and shop manual from YT. I started reading them and now I'm really confused. I was looking at PTO controls. They show two, neither of which I have. Mine has the ports for auxillary hydraulics like the independent PTO but the PTO lever is located where the live PTO lever is. My pto shifter doesn't look like either. There is about an eight inch piece of hydraulic hose connecting the ports.

Was there a third option the book doesn't mention?

The other thing I noticed was the engine serial number. Mine is located right next to the fuel pump just like the book, but the book shows a number with a DSL suffix, mine has a number that matches the Perkins web site with an H at the end saying the engine was built in 1981.

Can someone straighten me out? I thought I'd give Big Deans fingers a rest after all the help he's given me.

Don't know what kind of manuals you bought, but you should have gotten the real manuals from your MF dealer. You also need the Parts Manual.

The manuals were ordered from this forum, Yesterdays Tractors. I believe they're reprints of Massey manuals or close. But I can't blame them. Talking with Big Dean I found out that my left cover isn't factory. It has live PTO but there is an auxiluary pump. I pulled the upper hose and cranked the engine about a turn and got about a pint of oil. My local Massey dealer cleared up the engine serial #. Early 245 had the the engine model and below it a 6 digit serial followed by DSL. Newer models had the perkins CE XXXXX U XXXXX H, first x being stock #, the second being the serial.

I'm going to get a parts manual.
