Paul probaly the rubber sleeve stayed in the connection when you remove the line they usually do. Remove the old sleeve you may have to pick it out with something like an icepick. Install the new rubber sleeve onto the line stick the line in the connection & work the rubber sleeve down till you can start the line nut. It will be a very tight fit but it will go in enough you can start the nut. Do not over tighten the nut just enough to stop it from leaking. Check the line just above where the sleeve fits for a crack If they are over tighten they will sometimes cause the line to crack there.
