I'm looking at a MF240, s/n 2773-N13077, circa 1980s, with the 3 cylinder diesel engine. Several questions for you of great wisdom - why isn't the MF240 included in the serial number lists of this website? What is the actual year of production? What is the rated HP of this tractor? And last, this particular tractor has no provisions for remote hydraulics. Can this feature be added at a reasonable cost or should I keep looking for another tractor? I'm looking at this as a working tractor, not for collection.

Thanks, John in OH

John,

I also have been looking for MF 240 serial numbers. It seems they must be some sort of secret. If you find them let me know.

I have had a 1996? MF 240 for 3 years and am highly pleased. I use it primarly for bush-hoging. The engine and hydrolics are idealy suited for a six foot Bush Hog Squealer. I cut heavy fescue and weeds higher than the cowling and the governor barely cuts in. In 850 hours of use I have never heard the engine miss a beat.

Fuel usage is unbelieveable. It will run forever on a tank of fuel.

John, I also own a MF 240. I bought it new in 1988 and it has 1050hrs on it. This is one of the best tractors I have ever owned, and I have had many. Other than regular maintenance, I have not had to fix anything. I think the reason they are not included in the S N list is because they are made in Great Britain. Its no big deal to add remotes, As stated earlier its a simple plate change. Goodluck, D

I think you should buy this tractor. The MF 240 are wery good tractors, I have one 1984 MF 240 with 6000 hrs on it. It runs well and there is no problem getting it running even if there is -15C.

You have a 1988, pto 41hp, engine 46hp, 29 drawbar. If it's like my 245, there's a small plate under the seat on the right forward of the seat that can be removed and a diverter valve added to steal 4 gpm from the 3 point. Of coarse for about $450.00 and some fabrication on your own, you can add a front pump driven from the crank pully. Makes the hydraulics move faster.
