My dad just recently bought a Massey Harris at a swap meet for $200. I have been trying to learn more about them. It isn't in the best shape and needs a lot of work. I am not sure on the model, but if anyone could help me, I would appreciate it. It has only one front tire on it, and all the photos I have seen have 2. Can these be changed out or was this the way some are made? I would like to find out more, but my Dad lives in Tucson and I am in Phoenix. He isnt familar with tractors, and wants my help. E-mail me if you know. He thinks it was a '40's model.

The single front wheel was an option on many tractors of the era. You cna check the photos on this site and see if you find anything that looks remotely close to what your dad's tractor looks like.

Let's assume that it was a MH from the 40's or early 50's. There should be a tin plate on the left side of the tractor with a serial number and model number stamped into the plate. It's probably missing. It is also stamped into the machined surface of the cast iron differential/transmission housing, specifically between the cast iron shifting platform (that the shift lever comes out of) and the steel plate that covers the big gears in the rear end. It is stamped there to the left side of the upper surface, probably not too deeply stamped and more than likely filled with paaint and bird poop, etc. Start looking and have a hand scraper and a wire brush, it'll be there. Then post the number (and letters) and someone will ID it for you. Single front wheeled Massey rowcrops were not that common I don't think.

We probably need more info like a ser.#,Model #, a photo would be a tremendous help in trying to identify.
