The rotation on this tractor's distributor is COUNTERclockwise(CCW). So, first check that the plug wires are on the distributor cap in the correct order for CCW rotation. The engine can and will start and run (poorly )if the #3 and #4 plug wires are switched on the dist.cap. Usually, when this happens someone also screws up the timing to make it run "better." Your engine will not want to take the gas very well, coughing, sputtering and backfiring through the carburator. New plugs, points, wires, etc. won't cure the problem. Once you get the plug wires on in the right order, everything smooths out nicely.
I found this problem on a MF35 tractor that I pulled out of the weeds after sitting for over a year as "broken." If that's not your problem, check for cracked/leaking wires, OR..... possibly the condensor is not collapsing at the right time. I had this happen intermittently in a British car that I owned. Took a couple weeks of troubleshooting until only the condensor was left. When I changed that, everything was fine. Good luck, the MF135 is a darn good tractor,
Jim

I read in many other periodicals that it is very easy to put the plug wires in the wrong position on the cap. Double check that.

are plug wires on wrong for rotation of dist? take cap off and whirl it over see which way distributor turns then wire accordingly. This has happened to me and others the dist rotation on my TEA Ferguson is counter clockwise.
Do you have good blue spark from coil? regards

I had a similar problem with my MH44, turned out to be a bad coil. Good luck Mark
