M-F 231 possessed?

Replaced the starter solenoid on a 231 model, and although I'm 99% sure I hooked the new one up exactly like the old one - soon as I try reconnecting the negative to the battery it tries to start. Even bypassing all the safety features (like having the clutch in, etc). The new solenoid is an aftermarket universal type, not a M-F replacement part. Any insight into this? Anyone have a wiring diagram for the starting system? This tractor didn't come with a service manual or anything.

Thanks in advance.

You need to get 3 manuals: Operator's Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. All available at your nearest dealer. These will be your best investment on your tractor. Recommend you get the official MF manuals rather than off brand.

I don't know your tractor but solenoids usually have a small wire that is connected to the power to engage them. disconnect this wire and see if there is power there all the time or if it still cranks you have a short in or on the solenoid.
