MF35 Diesel to gas conversion?

Have a 1955 MF35 that is addicted to ether. What I want to do is convert it to a gas engine. Will a gas engine from a 35 match up to my diesel 35? Is there any differences in the gearing between the two? I plan on replacing everything from the bellhousing forward. The reason for wanting to switch fuel is the 35 is the only diesel in my stable and she needs a overhaul. Thanks for any advise. Roy (MD)

Folks: Just for your info, I looked on the Perkins web site and found that they still make the 3 cylinder diesel that MF used. I guess nowadays they are used in air compressors and welders. The Standard engine is extinct.

I spent about $300 USD for the basic rebuild kit, less than $30 for the gaskets, and another $90 to replace a bent rod. It runs like a dream and on a thimble full of diesel fuel. Mine is also a MF35 and I agree with Ricky, however, I am not in your shoes, so good luck either way.

I just finished rebuilding my MF 35 Diesel....The rebuild kit was relatively cheap. I think you will spend more converting to gasoline. The rebuilt Perkins engine runs great.

I have done just that conversion. The bellhousing back is the same but you will need everything forward as the front casting is different. The fuel tank is different as well. I assume that you already have the continental gas engine and other parts. As one of the other folks said, It would not be cost effective if you didn't have the parts already. I wish that I had overhauled the standard diesel and left it as it was. My tractor is beautiful and runs good but not as fuel efficient as the diesel and it doesn't seem to govern quite as smoothly as the diesel. Also it is more susceptable to fire than the diesel. It definitely starts better than the standard diesel.

Why would you want to do that when you can buy
a good gas 35 for around $3500.Why not just sell
it and buy a good one,or just overhaul the diesel,
the cheapist way to go.

What gas engine do you plan on using?
