I have been offered a Massey 55 Diesel Western Special. Is there such a tractor and are they collectable? Thanks John

Do you have a picture? I've never seen one of those in our area.

I have a few massey 55,and 555.The western special had I believe 26 inch rear tires and a wider arched front axle,I believe they were hand clutch as well.I have an original factory manual for 55 western special cause I hope to find one one day. They are fairly rare, and usually reasonably priced.
good luck

I've never heard the term "western special", I suppose it is another term for regular wide-front fixed wheels front and back. As far as collectability, I would think it depends on where you live. Up here there seem to be a lot of the 55's (not nearly as many as there are 44's) so they aren't rare, but in some places they probably are. I think some of the guys want them for tractor pulling competitions. Keep in mind that's apretty big tractor, as big as they got in that era and working on the big stuff isn't easy unless you're set up for it. Hope the rear rubber is decent, I wouldn't want to put tires on that brute.
