The rear wall on my oil bath type air cleaner canister is rotted through. I suppose I can cut out the bad material and have new brazed in. Anyone have any ideas on either locating OEM cansiter or substitution of another cleaner? I calculated cfm at slightly less than 100. Have read pro's & con's on paper verses oil bath...an oil bath replacement is fine with me, maybe even preferred. Any opinions/suggestions on air cleaner theory also welcome. Many thanks!

Thanks Will. Saturday I went to vist a neighbor, taking the filter with me to compare to his tractor. Figured if I have to travel several hours to a yard, I might want to know ahead of time if parts are interchangable between various motor types and also other Massey models. Neighbor took the canister and said his brother could weld it easy. Heard this morning he nearly finished the job but ran out of gas (MIG). I weld with AC/DC stick, so I guess a neighborly MIG/TIG solution slipped right by me.

Thanks Will, the MF supplier I normally deal with didn't have any luck but was able to give me the # of a salvage yard today. PS: I've some vacation time coming, just might walk through a yard (or two) if allowed. As a mechanical engineer I enjoy seeing how 'other folks' solved problems/arranged components/etc.

This is only my opininion, but there is probably a K&N filter that could be fitted in place of the oil bath. The K&N is reusable, washable cotton type element. You would only have to install it in line with the intake hose. This could be a temporary fix until you find an OEM replacement if that is your wish.

Thanks Marty. I was originally for a K & N but read a post somewhere that folks using them in Baja type environments experienced engine wear. One man's opinion....that's why I asked for the experience of ytmag members. I'll take another look.

Some Bareco parts are made in India but they seem to fit and be OK. There site lists parts diagrams for MF tractors which are very useful. Quite handy downunder.

I am waiting for a reply from Barco on pricing and availability. A question I have yet to answer..The filter canister shown is cylindrical with an output pointing 45 degrees down. Research in my limited library of manuals seems to indicate that this style was used on the Z-134 Continental engine. I have a somewhat rectangular filter with a horizontal outlet at near the top. Would I have to adapt by using molded radiator hose or a fitting with 135 degree included angle? Again, feedback appreciated.

Hello Peter, BARECO (and probably several other parts dealers on the internet) sells a new oil bath canister for your 35. They are out of Australia but now have a dealership in California. I have ordered a few hard-to-get parts from them for my 135 and was very pleased. I have listed a link below. Good luck, Tim
