Should I take off front end loader?

I recently purchased a 1963 MF 35 with a front end loader. I have been trying to brush hog the fields at my cabin but the wheels start spinning any time I go over the slightest wet area or even a slight incline in dry areas. Some people have suggested that if I take the loader off I should be able to cut almost any where and not get stuck. I am afraid to try this because I use the loader to pry the tractor backwards when it is stuck. Does anyone have any experience with this. The brush hog is 5' and I believe my tires are fine. I bought a winch which did not work at all and I just bought tire chains that I have not tried yet. Thanks.

WE HAVE A DAIRY FARM AND THE ONLY TRACTORS HAVE BEEN MASSEYS. WILLY HIT IT ON THE HEAD. I PROMISE YOU ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS TO PUT CALCIUM IN YOUR REAR TIRES. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOADER OFF!!! ALOT OF TIMES YOU WILL WANT YOUR LOADER WHILE YOU BUSH HOG (STONES, TREE BRANCHES). ALWAYS RUN WITH YOUR LOADER AS LOW AS YOU CAN. WE PUT 11L'S FRONT TIRES ON THE FRONT TO HAVE MORE FLOTAION. GOOD LUCK!!

I've got a Freeman 3000 loader on MF 35 w/Perkins, '61. When I had purchased it the previous owner has a 55 gal drum on the drawbar filled with gravel. I removed it and am running with just weights. Rear is a bit light, so I drop the bucket and just run with the frame and arms. I am in the process of replumbing so I can put in quick disconnects, allowing (I hope) in the future to pull 4 pins, disconnect hydraulics and drive away. One point I'd like to add. My front spindle bearings are shot. The reprint parts catalog does not seem to list the bearings but just the whole spindle assembly. I'll have to pull and take to a supplier. Can't speak for the axle bearing but maybe this winter after I get the loader off and free up the front end.

Do whichever you have to to leave loader on. Its a big help in stabilizing tractor on slopes & bucket can hit objects before 'hog runs over 'em & causes big problems

I am using the same tractor with the 3 cyl. perkins diesel with a 5 ft. bush hog and can go anywhere with the tractor. I have a front end loader but I usually leave it off unless I am doing some loader work. I find it makes the rear end pretty light. My rear tires are filled with calcium. My loader comes off in about 2 minutes , just 4 pins to remove. I think that is your problem.

Brian. I have an original MF loader with a trip bucket. Two pins for the cylinders and two pins for the end of the arms that hook into the frame that stays with the tractor. The trick is to tie the arms to a tree branch so you just pull the pins and back out. Then its a one man operation.

Rick, what kind of loader are you using that unhooks that quick?

Have you filled your Rear tires? That will help a lot with traction along with keeping the rear end down when using the front loader. Mark H.

I agree with Mark, the loader may be causing the rear end to be light, thus causing you to get stuck. Either get the rear tires loaded, or add rear weights.
