Oil, where and what....

I just got a 1972 F 135, with a three cylinder Perkins gas engine. I just drained the oil and changed the filter but to my embarassment I cannot figure out where to put the new oil in, and don't think it is the kind of thing to guess. I see no in-let on the engine. By the shifter there is an proximately 2" plug. I took that out and it appears empty, but it seems to be the gear box and differential. * Looking down and feeling sheepish, * If any one knows where to but the oil back, what kind would be recommended and what kind of oil should go by this shifter, it would be appreciated.
Thanks Rob

Can't help you on the oil fill place. Highly recommend you get Operator's Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. They are your very best investment. Recommend Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40 oil. Second choice Shell Rotella 15W40.
Good luck.

I use Rotella 15W-40 in my 135 diesel. My tractor is used in warm months. When I got my tractor home after I bought it I couldn't back it off the trailer because I coldn't start it.I had to call the guy I bought it from.He told to put it in neutral.Nobody can top that and I have been around tractors all my life!I guess I was just nervous!

Well Rob, don't know for sure if its the same or not but I have a 70 model 135 gas and the oil fill is a plug about 1 1/2 in diameter with a T handle on top of it too tighten it in the hole. I know this sounds a little vague but thats the only way I can think of to describe it. Hope it helps. I run Quaker State 30 wt in mine here in north central Texas.

Thanks for the chuckle Rob. hahahahaha.... Its nice to know I'm not the only one that can find himself in need of an explanation for something really basic. I have the 3cyl perkins diesel, the engine oil in it is put in through an inlet on the front left hand side of the motor. I dont know if it is the same as the gas version. I use Delva 1330 engine oil. Once again mine's diesel, however the 1330 is also used in gas engines. I use it in petrol powered firefighter pumps and briggs & stratton mower engines that require a mono grade oil. Is there a chance the oil goes in thru the rocker cover at the top? like a normal car engine? Hope some of his helps. Thanks again for the chuckle.

I really thought that was a power steering pump..... But then I never thought I would be taking a gas tank out to change the plugs...

You don't have to remove the gas tank to pull the plugs. There is a heat sheild on the exsaust Manifold with a couple of bolts holding it on, remove the sheild and you will see the plugs. Just changed mine. They are right about the oil filler plug left side front of the engine t-handle turn it counter clock wise to loosen it then pull out the plug. The power steering pump is on the right side just below the altinator and there is a plug screwed into it to check and fill thru. I run 20/40 in my engine. Mark H.
