I just bought a 44 massey LPG, and am kind of confused. the tractor is a complete unit, all the LPG plumbing is on it, and the fade of the paint over the entire tractor is the same, but the serial number on the frame is 44 GR 23296. the figures dont add up, according to the serial numbers on this website, the LP version didnt come out until 1952 with the numbers starting at 1001. the serial numbers on the frame would make the tractor a 1951. I know it is possible that someone somewhere along the line could have put the LPG parts on a gas 44. I am hoping that this is not the case. Is it possible that they started production in 1951 and put the LPG parts on those tractors??? any info on this would be great

Tyler The serial number you listed is for a gas row-crop version. It is a good possibility that either the u-frame has been changed or the propane system was put on the engine.Do a compresion test on the engine. If the compression is between 180 and 190 PSI you have a engine that was built for running propane.Hope this is of some help.Drop me a line and let me know what you find.

Tyler,
Of course it's possible, insane behavior was the
apparent norm with the correct red. Mismanagement
ruined everything good by 1956/57. An LPG could
have been added on a Tuesday, in 1951. The S/N's
have been subject to dispute since reference
books first appeared. Also, your tractor may
have cracked a U-frame in 1970, and Central Tractor, of Des Moine,Iowa, with it's catalog of
used parts, provided a replacement. Good luck.
