I have a Massey Ferguson that I picked up two weeks ago which I was told was a MF65. However when I got it home and spent more time looking it over I found it had a "40" badge on the front grill( ventelator?). Obviously a total tractor rookie... How can I determine for sure what model this tractor is? I would like to purchase a repair manual for it and want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks in advance for any help.

There was a 40 Ferguson and then there was a 50 Massey Ferguson they were the same tractor they did this right before they changed the company name to Massey Ferguson. I think there was the same tractor in the Massey Harris line but not sure what they called it. The F 40 and MF 50 where smaller than the MF 65

Thank you for the help. I determined that my tractor is an F40, not an MF65. Not sure if this is a good thing or not but guess I'll work with it. Seems to be a good running tractor.

There was a F-40 (Ferguson) Maybe you could tell us what type of engine you have. F-40 had Continental Z-134 or Standard Motors 4 cyl diesel MF 65 had Continental G-176 and Perkins 203 diesel IDI (early) MK 1 and Direct Injection (later) MK 2. Perhaps the carburator could give us some clues?

My reference doesn't show a 40 in the MF section.

Look at www.tractortips.com. Serial number should be on the dash panel.
