I have a MF-35 that the fuel gauge is not working.
What is the proper way to determine if it is the float or the gauge? I also have a lot of lifter noise. I am a average mechanic. Should I attempt to adjust this or take it to a shop? Thanks.

Ground the lead from the gauge to the sender. It should make the gauge read full. If yes, suspect sender in tank, OR ground. If no, suspect gauge, OR power to gauge. [fuse?] Tom S.

The float rotted in my MF-135. Most easily checked by removing the sender from the tank. The brass float was full of holes so sank. I replaced it the a piece of cork. I coated the cork with sealall that's resistant to gasoline and alcohol.

In the Continental engine there can be a problem with rocker arm bushing wear. You can pull the tank and the rocker cover and take a look but if the bushings are worn out from lack of oil you will need new bushings, or rocker arms and a shaft. CT has an assembly, MF dealers don't. Its no big problem to replace the assembly and set the valve clearances.
