I recently purchased a 1955 to 35. It has been converted to 12v system. Everything works great except the tractometer. I understand that the 135 early years had a gear drive on the alternator that would run the tractometer. Does any one know if this is true, will it work on the to35 and do they have a part number for the alternator?

TONY,
YOU ARE CORRECT. THERE IS AN ALTERNATOR GEAR DRIVE SET-UP FOR THE 135. I ASKED ABOUT IT ON MY LAST VISIT TO MY MF DEALER. HE SHOWED ME ALL THE PIECES.THE ALTERNATOR IS THREADED ON THE INSIDE OF THE SHAFT FOR A LITTLE GEAR. THEN THERE IS AN ADAPTOR THAT GOES ON THE BACK OF THE ALTERNATOR THAT YOUR CABLE CONNECTS TO.OF COURSE ALL THIS IS NOT CHEAP, SOMEWHERE AROUND $200 I BELIEVE.I THINK THIS ALSO REQUIRED AN EXTERNAL REGULATOR.
JUST RECENTLY I SAW A DIGITAL TACH AND HOUR METER IN NORTHERN HYDRAULICS CATALOG FOR $39.95. I THINK THIS IS THE WAY I AM GOING TO GO. THIS SAME ITEM MIGHT BE AVAILABLE AT AN AUTOMOTIVE STORE ALSO.HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP.

Thanks for the follow up, I will go to the dealer near me and see if I can find the information. I am leaning this way so I can keep the original tractometer in place and operable.

Tony, Someone may correct me here but I don't believe there is a gear drive for the alternator. The gear drive option was meant for a generator as Delco made them. I know my TO35 is 12 v with a generator hence having a gear drive.

Norm

Massey did use a tach cable drive on the latter MF 175/180 which had alternators. I beleive the the unit from the generator will bolt on to the Delco alternator, but I am not sure if the ratio
is correct.
