I have a 165 with a steering leak, started back after the shop took the front end off for the governor. It is leaking past the o-ring on the cylinder. We have replaced it 2 times and had the dealer come out, they replaced the elbow saying it was cracked. Now, about 2 weeks late it is still leaking and I dont know why. Has anyone else experienced problems like this? Any suggestions? I use this tractor on a daily basis and I don't want to have it down for too long.

check that center pivot on that cast above your axle . This has a bushing in it and wears out . Have someone start the tractorturning the wheels left and right. You will notice a heaving where that big center nut and steering shaft is up and down, that must be removed measured, and ordered. when it comes in you will have to take a rotary reamer like for brake cylinders to make it fit. after you do this your steering will be much improved and you may want to tighten or replace tour tie rod ends

About 5 years ago, I restored an old 165, and when I got it running, the cylinder was leaking. When I talked to an old MF mechanic, he told me he had never had much luck replacing the seal. He said that the cylinder wore egg shaped, and a new seal would not help. He told me to have the cylinder rebuilt at a hydraulic shop and they would rebush the end and everything would be fine. Instead, I tried some seal conditioner, because the tractor had set up so long, and that worked. Probably won't work for you though. Just my .02 worth. KKreek
