My MH 44gr started running real bad after I attempted to pop up a large stump with the backblade. Thinking it was sedement in the gas I removed the Zenith Carb, cleaned it and installed most new parts from a rebuild kit. Put the carb with an inline fuel filter back on, replaced the distributor cap and rotor and attempted to start it. At first it started up with the choke on. Ran badly for a couple seconds with the choke off, backfired and died. Not sure if it is still a carb problem or something worse?? Any help will be appreciated!!! Thanks Mark

I'm not sure, the distributor rotor rotates, I have spark at the plugs, rebuilt the carb and did a compression check (90-110 lbs. per cylinder).
I'm thinking about removing the valve cover to see if the valves are moving OK when I crank it.
Thank You for your reply!
