Help! MF-35 which has been running fine all of a sudden stuck in Reverse; H-L lever shifts normally, fluid level is at top of line, everything else seems right. I've tried pushing tractor forward and back, shifting while engine running and off, in both H, S and L, all to no avail. I've tried both levels of clutch, and with PTO running and not. Still no success.

How do I get it out of Reverse without tearing it apart, which is beyond my knowledge and tools? Then, how do I get it to shift normally again?

Thanks for your help.

Rudy is absolutely correct. Move the gear forward or backward depending on which gear you are stuck in and when you feel the click, it has settled in because of the detent balls. The shift lever should take care of itself. I printed Big Dean's instructions and took them to the tractor. Took me about five minutes. You should not have to use any force.

Hi Rusty I've had the same frustrating problem, but it's so easy to rectify once you've done it.
Get yourself about a 12 inch piece of round metal about 1/4" thick or a thick welding electrode without flux. Bend it about half an inch from the point to form a hook. Remove the oil filler on the gearbox and insert this tool at about 45 degree angle towards the front and a slight angle from horizontal. Lift the gear lever and fish around trying to push the offending part towards the REAR of the tractor. Use a light to see inside so you can see where the point of the gear lever is stuck. You don't have to use force as it all slides into place if correctly handled. GOOD LUCK

Does your shifter move or is it stuck? If it is stuck, go to Big Dean's site for exact instructions. It worked for me. Rather than repeat his info, and make a mistake or inadvertantly take credit for his help I suggest that you go to:>Link

After writing the original problem, I found and then followed Big Dean's web site instructions to the letter, but (surprisingly) without success.

Parked on level pavement, engine off, high-low range shifter in start (neutral) position, then removed the filler plug. I tried to pry the base of the shift lever forward, with a variety of pry bars including a very long one, putting a LOT of muscle behind it (but not wanting to strike the bar with a sledge for fear of breaking something). Nothing budges it. Gears all turn, tractor runs normally in reverse (both high and low ranges). Shift lever wiggles and pulls up (as normal) but doesn't shift out of reverse.

Anyone out there able to advise? Help! and thanks.

Rusty: I had the same problem not too long ago, I didn't try to push the shift lever, I pushed the gear itself and that did the trick. Try that, with a small flashlight you can see the gear. Good Luck. Rudi K.

I need to give credit where credit is due. Big Dean helped me with my problem then. He deserves all the credit for the fix.
