Question for the MH/MF folks. When I first was working off the home farm in IA I worked for a guy with a gas MF 180. (I grew up on JDs and my current hobbies still run to the green side.) I rarely see much about the 180 and almost never see one for sale posted. My question is: Is this because everyone who has one wants to keep it, or is this not considered a very good tractor. I always like the 180 I used, and thought it was a pretty darn good tractor. The only bad thing I would say about it was; if the heater wasn't plugged in and it got much below freezing, the tractor would not start no matter what you did to it. There was no way it would start, period, end of discussion. Was this common for that model? Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

Mine's a diesel and has always started in cold weather, of coarse the coldest it gets around here is 30 - 35 deg. and then only for a few days. They are good tractors, easy to fix and get parts. There weren't many too many made and probably don't change hands too often, I've had mine for about 7 years.

MF 180 used a Perkins 236 Diesel , same as MF 175 , 255(late models), 265 , 274 (Landini) , 270 , 670 , . Real popular engine , our 274 starts well in cold weather up here in Canada . Not a lot of them were made , they were a flat eck version of the 175 and more expensive , one heck of a tractor for row crop work . -- Bill

MF's first attempt to win back Harris owners. A
63 HP tractor with actual stress plates on the engine, and an uncluttered, treaded, operator's station. A surprise in 1965, after hugging all
those transmission cases on MF models. Costing
more than the low profile 175, with the same engine, the 180 got lost in the shuffle, since both greens,1650&3020, had more weight & power.
Ford updated the 5000 to 67 HP, and the 180 lost
it's market,replaced by the 1080.

What model MH has a nice open platform like 180s? Certnainly not my 333. Seems my legs hug something on it.

I didn't say, so I guess its my fault, but the 180 I was around was a gas version. Like I said, I really liked the tractor and was looking to find out some comments from MF owners. Seems this tractor kind of got lost in the shuffle of MFs
