As usual I know enough to be in trouble!! I need some help. I recently got a TO35(it came with the place I bought). It is very sick, but I got it running. I replaced the starter, generator, regulator, selenoid, and put in a tune up kit, and it is running much better. It was wired as a 6 volt negative ground which is the way I replaced everything. My question is the manual I have says it should be wired as a positive ground. It seems to work fine, the only problem is it charges at 20 amps at full trottle and stays there, the regulator never cuts out the charging. Have I messed something up! Also, which way should the hand trottle be moved to increase rpm, right now I have to move it from right to left (push) the manual says it should be move from left to right (pulled toward driver). This poor old tractor has had lots of "modifications" to it. Any help will be appreciated

The only thing that may be unhappy about the ground being reversed is the voltage regulator. They are usually marked for pos or neg ground. That may be why the overcharge.

Hi Allan:

The other thing I forgot to mention is if I change the polarity to a postitive ground then my ammeter reads in the negative. I had another person tell me to change the wiring (switch wires) on the ammeter and everything will be ok. Is that correct?
