The neutral safety switch on my MF-135 (diesel) has apparently failed and I can only start the tractor by bypassing the switch. Since the safety switch does serve a purpose other than keeping lawyers happy, I'd like to fix it and do away with the bypass. None of my manuals makes any reference to replacing the switch- Is it as simple as unscrewing the old one and screwing a new one in? Also, since the last MF dealer around here has now gotten rid of anyone with a brain or even a good attitude, any recomendations on web sources for the parts needed?

Thanks,

Zippy

Try replacing the switch which just screws in and out as you thought. You may find that even with a new switch it still doesnt work. This is then due to wear on the end of the shifter rail which contacts the switch plunger. If this is the case, e-mail me for further info

I don't recomend bypassing the neutrel safety switch, especeally if any small children are ever around the tractor. Simply by wiring the two wires going to and from the switch together you can bypass the switch till you can get a replacement. You might try screwing the switch in a little tighter and this will make sure the ball is getting pushed up to make the switch close.
