Problem with charging

The ammeter in my fathers MF 135 shows a little charge (a few amps) when the engine is cold but a little after the engine gets hot it stops charging. What could be the problem? All help will be appreciated.

I just had to add my two cents worth. I can't say I can solve your problem, but it's similar to mine. I just replaced my battery and rebuilt the generator in my MF2135. and while the ammeter (actually, the ammeter is out of a suzuki motor cycle) shows discharge when starting, it doesn't seem to show ANY charge afterwards when it is running. I've probably started it about ten times since I did all this, so I can't figger out if the generator is charging or the battery is just not fully discharged yet. Should I replace the voltage regulator, or just wait until the battery runs down? Will running my new generator against no load ruin it?

Thanks for any help:)

TOM (OK)

Tom! is your meter wired in the right place? To show properly the entire electrical system except the starter has to pass through the ampmeter. Otherwise, use a voltmeter. As to the original question. If your 135 is a diesel there is no load once it's running and no lights or anything are on, so it may not show a charge once the battery is right up.

Well I have a mh-50. The generator was dead, i eplaced it and tried to change the regulator. The old reg had 3 terminals marked L, B, and F. The new one is marked F, 1, 2, and 3. When I hooked up the new reg, as soon as I connected the battery the regulator contacts closed. Is that correct or do I have something wired wrong?

Are you having problems with the battery staying up? Most charging circuits will stop charging when the Batt is up to snuff. If not, is it an alt or gen system? You may just have a low requirement amp wise to bring it back to "charged" status.
