Has anyone heard about the Continental Z-124 being a very narrow engine and this making the block prone to cracking between the coolant and the exhaust? Someone who was trying to sell me a different tractor told me this after he learned that I'd bought my MF 2135 with the gas engine from someone else. He's the only one I've heard this from, and although I'm happy with my tractor, I've got this nagging worry in the back of my mind. It will probably need an overhaul someday soon, and what are the chances of this problem already being there? It uses plenty of oil, but not any antifreeze. (I also see no oil in the antifreeze).

I'd greatly appreciate any aand all input. Especially yours, Big Dean:)

Tom - I have two M-F's with the Continental gas engine. A 2135 and a 50. Both these engines are cracked and I have been told that it is caused by overheating. The engine crackes in the web between the cylinders. There is a fix for this condition. My 2135 was cracked in all three webs and we repaired it. It has been running hard for two years now with no problems. The 50 had been repaired before I got it (1976) and it is still running.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the generator and regulator> or can you tell me how to wire it? My new reg"s terminals are F,1,2,3. Thanks David

What is the recommended fix for the web cracks between cylinders on the Z-134? I have one that I am about to rebuild and may have that problem.
Thanks, Brad

Hi Tom, If basic maintenance is kept to engine religiously, there is no need to worry for this engine. Have good gauges to warn you if something's amiss. Always run engine for a few minutes before shutting especially when it just worked hard and same when starting first time in morning. Your oilo consumption is probably due to worn rings which a compression test would confirm it more exactly. My two cents, good luck.

Btw check Big Dean's CD offer it is your tractor's best friend.
