I recently purchased a MF12 baler for $50.00. It had a stuck plunger that I was able to free up and run hay thru. One problem, the left side knotter hangs the knot on the billhook. I've read thru the other letters here and see it's a common problem. Does anyone know if you can get another right side knotter from a salvage yard and run it that way to correct the problem? My local salvage yard has 10 to choose from. For $50.00 for a baler I'm willing to spend a little to get it running.

The roller on rhe twine knife probably has a flat spot worn on 1 side or the bushing is out of it. The twine arm doesn't move far enough to pull the knot off of it. Check to make sure all of the spring loaded hay dogs move freely. The bill hook may be worn (groove around it) from the twine allowing the knot to tighten around it. The knob on the end of the moveable portion of the bill hook can be filed to get it to close further pulling the ends of the knot through rather then tightening the knot around itself. You may also try tightening the twine discs to keep the twine from slipping while the knife arm trys to pull the knot off the bill hook. Used knotter parts are pobably no better than what you already have. I have worked on hundreds of these balers over the years. The twine finger timing is also critical on Massey knotters. Make sure the twine arm spring is not broken.

Thank's for the info, Tom. I don't think it's the roller on the twine knife though. I switched knife arm assemblies and the same side still hangs up. I've taken the bill hook off and filed down the sharp edges on the finger and hook caused by the twine. Haven't tried it yet(not enough daylight), but I'll let you know how it works out. If you have any other ideas, the help is appriciated if it saves me buying a very expensive new bill hook.
