just bought a massey harris 81 rc with cultivators ,side covers and headlights ..serial # is 402268 I got #s from cover on left side frame on a tag with brass pins to hold it on..the old guy who owned it used it for cultivating his 10 acres..engine turns over and gas tank is clean and drained, looks like a 4 cylinder continetal flathead..are there many of these still left as i never noticed these little tractors at shows because I was allways looking for bigger or older ones ..fenders are ok but would like to buy others ..does another model fit these like a model 22?are any parts interchanable ?..mark

I think the 20/22 series and the 81/82 series were pretty similar with some sheet metal differences. The model 20 was made from 47-48 and the model 22 from 50-53 (I don't know where 1949 went to). The model 81 was made from 41-46 and the 82 from 42-46. The 81 was a row crop narrow front and the 82 was a standard wide-front version. This is all from a tractor encyclopedia I have here. Early versions of the line had the 124 cubic inch engine while the later ones used the 140 cubic inch version of the same block.

I have two Standard front 81s . They came in both Standard and Row Crop styles and were even avialable with a front castor wheel if so ordered.
The 82 was the distilate verson of the 81 . It had the 140 Continental Engine . The 81 had the 124 Engine in it . The Model 20 was Idenitical to the
81s and 82s only newer . The 22 was up graded to the 140 Engine . It had a newer style of grill and some cosmetic changes .
Hope this helps George .
