JUST READ THE ARTICLE ON CONVERTING TO AN ALTERNATOR. MY QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU GET THE TACH/HOUR METER METER TO WORK AFTER THIS CONVERSION? MY MF 135 DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT GENERATOR ON IT ANYWAY SO THIS IS PROBABLY CHEAPER THAN GETTING THE CORRECT GENERATOR. MY CONCERN IS THE HOUR METER FOR MAINTAINANCE PURPOSES,AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE TACH WORKING TOO. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED,AND THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Massey made a factory alternator with tach hook up on the back for the later years of the 100 series. I replaced mine for $100 canadian last fall. Check early posts, lots of discussion about this topic. If you have a diesel engine I believe you can get a gear setup from a 200 series engine to work.

MARCEL, THANKS FOR THE EXCELLENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE ALTERNATOR. I AM GOING TO THE DEALER TOMMORROW SO I WILL ASK ABOUT THIS. MY ENGINE IS A 4cy CONTINENTAL, SO I GUESS THE DIESEL IDEA WON'T WORK, BUT I WILL ASK AROUND.

I have a Super 90 diesel and plan to replace the generator with an alternator. I am thinking of dismantling the alt, center drilling the armature shaft, threading to accept the drive gear and fabricating some type of mount for the tach drive housing. I plan to use the generator pulley on the alt to keep rpm the same. Has anyone done this?

My MF35 hour meter quit working so I just broke down and bought a regular hour meter $32.00 at an auto supply. Mounted it under the hood and wired it to the ignition switch to the coil wire. Works great. Remember this will monitor the hours on the motor with no regard to speed.
