Wondering about whether or not to buy this one. It is a gas powered, wide front. Has p/s and 3 pt.
Fella wants to let it go for 'around two thousand' he says. Could use some advice. Oh, it starts and runs strong. Looks to be complete.

hay jim this is still a GREAT tractor the 444 has a 277 engine and parts are not hard to find for that. the rest is all most all 44 which are easy to find the only real difference is the trans.but if it dose not make noise in hi or low that should be ok you got to remember she is 50 years old. cut 20 acres of hay today with one that the trans. has made noise for 10 years but she just don't stop. love to drive it but then i also drive a dodge. the 2000 might be a little high but if she is good then 2000 is not out of line in wi.

This "WAS" a great tractor, but with absolutely
no parts available, less you down another 444,
it is hard to justify the purchase. Buying to
play around with, provided you have the extra 2K,
is fine. However, to do serious work, any parts
needed will park your 444, until in desperation,
you accept genocide, paying blackmail prices for
tired iron parts. Getting late in the game for
tractors from the most mismanaged merger in farm
equipment history. Remember this was the company
that had half of the market share of self-propelled combines, and let it slip away. Did M-F ever build a tractor worthy of replacing any
4 cylinder 44? Any noise in the Hi/Lo or input
shaft housing means wear parts required, but not
available. To accept the no parts burden, better
to cap your offer at twelve hundred. Good luck.

I myself believe that yes they did.If the massey-ferguson 165 isnt worthy of living up to the 44,then no tractor does.it has more horsepower and has less problems of breaking down.
I encourage anyone to buy a 444.my uncle had one but sold it due to a bad oil leak.

grandpa had TWO 165 Masseys....still does.....massey Harris guy needs to do more research in regards to the sellout of the combines.....massey ferguson has continued making them into the new millenium. if you dont know the facts, don't talk at all.
