I have a MF 274 , under the red paint it is actually a Landini 6860 . It has a Perkins 236 diesel , problem is that the governors hunt , under load it slows down until you give it throttle , then it is OK , keeps the load up . When you take load off , ie raise discbine , it races until you slow it down with throttle . I have had many Perkins diesels , this is a first for me with this problem . A friend suggested adjusting the "surge screw?" , can't find it or any reference in manual . Any ideas?

I have a problem with my old and trustworthy Perkins 236 (fitted in a 1971 Ford F250 4x4)
The "oil" level has suddenly risen and I suspect diesel has got in there somewhere... As far as I know there are two ways that can happen:
1. bypass on one or more cylinders, but unlikely here as the engine still has full power and runs like a dream;
2. Leaking from the primary/lift pump into the crank case? Please will someone out there enlighten me.

Many thanks
