We recently traded the 165 for a 180. It was like night and day. Haying seemed alot easier and enjoyable with the 180 except for a little problems with the 180's remotes.
When lifting the gate of the round baler, it seems like a safety relief valve is kicking in way too early, we release the lever and re-engage it and the gate will open a little more. We do this 4 or 5 time until it is fully open. Is there a relief valve that can be replace or is it the pump being weak with old age.

I've seen this happen several tines. The detent kickout spools are adjustable. If you can hold the lever back (with some force) and raise the end gate, the problem is in the valve. The detents were usually factory set to nuetralize at about 1400 PSI. To adjust; remove the snap ring and cap at the back of the spool. The spool detent has an allen head screw in the end of it, turning it in will raise the pressure at which they kickout. If the sleeves around the detent spool are worn to much, the oil escapes between them and gets behind the main spool forcing the spool back to nuetral. Some oil behind the spool is normal, you will notice that there is a small return line that bleeds this oil back to the transmission. If the leak is to large the line can't handle it all thus allowing pressure to build behind it.

Toms right. I have a 180 that has had this problem. One thing to watch for though is the tiny ball that acts as the valve will fall out of its hole if the detent is set to low. If this is the case you have to remove the spool and then remove the allen head screw and drop the ball back in its hole.

From here it looks like one of two things -- check your oil level , you may be getting low or secondly your pumps may be getting weak . My 1085 does same thing on rd baler if oil is even a bit low.
