MF 20 Question

I have located a reasonably priced industrial MF 20, but before deciding to go look at thought you guys could held me out.

What ag tractor is this industrial tractor based on? I assume since it is a 3 cyl diesel it has to be a Perkins, is this correct?

Do they have enough clearance to do things like plow? Or are they too low to the ground?

What size tires? I figure if it has 24" I can boost it to 28" to add height, and also put taller front wheels and tires on it.

Your assumption is correct, it is a Perkins, either gas or diesel. They came equipped with 14.9x24 in the rear and a choice of different size in the front, but most were based on a 16 inch rim. The trans in mine is a three speed with a two speed selector with shuttle shift. This gives a total of 6 speeds in both fwd and reverse. The tractors are built like a tank. The front loader from the factory is a MF32. It has a 68 inch bucket and can lift 2500 pounds, so says the manual. The problems that I have had with mine have been from neglect and lousey{no} maintenance from previous owners. Some of these Units came with backhoes which have been removed but the frame for mounting the backhoe is still on the tractor, this will limit your ground clearance and use as a farm tractor. Check to see if there is a PTO. some configurations did not have PTO's. Hope this helps and good luck. If I can answer any other Questions . Just e-mail me.

Thanks for the info, Jerry and Dean! This tractor has the three-point hitch, so there are no remnants of the backhoe stuff to get in the way.

The MF20 is the same as the MF135 except for the nonadjustable front axle & most have the steering Cylinders down on the front axle instead of on the steering gear like the MF135 has. It could have a shuttle shift transmission. If you are planning on plowing with it be sure it is a straight MF20 & not an MF20 Turf. The turf is to high geared to do a good job plowing. I knew a guy that plowed a 40 Acer patch every year to put in hay grazer with one with the manual shuttle transmission.
